Susan Aglionby OBE
We are delighted and thrilled that one of our Ambassadors – Mrs Susan Aglionby – has been awarded the OBE in the New Years Honours list. A very much deserved honour.
Susan joined Girlguiding as a 7 year old Brownie and took her promise and law to heart – “thinking of others before herself” has been her life’s mantra, proven in all she continues to do for young people across our community and not least with Girlguiding Cumbria North.
Susan is currently an ambassador and is a huge support to many, being a willing listener and experienced adviser whenever she is called upon, including at all sorts of hours of the day. Our current County Commissioner – Julie Walton – first met Susan during training for her role as District Commissioner (25 years ago!) and has counted her as a friend and adviser ever since. Julie has always acknowledged that there was never a truer reflection in life of the adage “ Ask a busy person” than Susan and this honour could not be more truly deserved.
Susan began as an adult leader in Paddington and North Kensington before moving to Cumbria in the 1980’s. Susan has been a leader of most age sections, District and Division Commissioner several times, a trainer and section adviser. Our girls post 14 can truly thank for Susan for opening their eyes to the opportunities available through Duke of Edinburgh award, Queen’s Guide and International opportunities, that have given them the best possible start to their adult life and put them on the ladder of a lifetime of experiences.
Thank you, Susan for all your work, and huge Congratulations on your OBE.
