The County Standard

The County Standard was made over a two and a half year period by a team of six Guiders, and was first paraded at the Thinking Day service in Carlisle in 1968.

The standard brings together the Cumberland County Arms – The Sable Cross, The Guide Trefoil, the Mountains of Cumberland, the broad-shoulder of Skiddaw or Helvellyn and the leaves of bog myrtle.

Much time was spent sourcing the right materials and Keswick School of Arts made the finial, which represents the legend of St.Cuthbert. The poles were gifted by prominent members of Girlguiding Cumberland at the time.
